Sarah Sexton: Final Project Proposal
For my final project, I would like to cover the Tenth Annual SoJam A Cappella Festival 2012 in Raleigh, NC. It is a weekend-long event packed with concerts, competitions, master classes and workshops. Friday night, Nov. 2, will be a competition in which six collegiate a cappella groups compete in elimination rounds before the judges and audience. Saturday will be a day for collegiate groups to attend workshops with professionals in the field of a cappella to hone their craft. There will be intermittent showcases of collegiate a cappella groups that were runners-up but did not compete in the competition on the first night. Saturday night will be a concert featuring professional groups, such as Pentatonix. On the last day, the collegiate groups meet with professionals for master classes. Three University of Maryland a cappella groups, DaCadence, Faux Paz and PandemoniUM, are going to the festival. I want to produce a 3 to 3:30 minute audio slideshow (possibly mixed with video). I want to hook with Pentatonix, as they are the most famous guest group. Pentatonix are known for their appearance on the TV show, The Sing Off. I would record the announcer introducing them, and go to pictures of the group performing with audio under (if they allow no-flash photography). Then I would transition into the collegiate groups and the competition. Lastly, I would get audio and pictures of the UMD a cappella groups that go to SoJam. I will do interviews with UMD a cappella group members and professionals running master classes. Ambient sounds will be the announcer at the performances/competitions, recordings of the performances and crowd applause. My proposed headline would be: SoJam A Cappella Festival 2012 - a weekend showcase of pitch-perfect vocal talent
