Fourth grade teacher Virginia Cooper works in her classroom at St. Bernadette Catholic School in Silver Spring on the evening of October 15, 2012. The school's mascot is the bee. Although the students have long since gone home, Cooper, a 25th year teacher at the school, will often stay for several hours afterwards to prepare for the next day, proving why she is a past winner of the school's prestigious Teacher of the Year Award. Cooper also works at the schools Extended Day Program several days a week and participates in a weekly duckpin bowling league at nearby White Oak Lanes. She has been bowling regularly since she was 18 years old and currently carries a 111 average, which is excellent for duckpin. (Friday Knight Slice/Jimmy Williams)
