I
plan to create a video about workers on the campus, specifically the daily
lives of some workers (which students usually aren’t aware about) and
allegations of worker abuse/Justice at Maryland efforts against these
allegations. There will be a service event Nov. 5 led by Justice at Maryland on
this subject. I plan to lead with an interesting anecdote of a worker (for
example, a housekeeper) who leads a life students would find unexpected, or
begin with a surprise anecdote of the alleged worker abuse going on that students
aren’t aware about. In my story arc, I will include details and video clips of
the daily lives workers lead outside of work (for example, the housekeeper in
my building told me she and some fellow staff members enjoy going to Latin
dancing classes on some Fridays), as well as the kind of work they do every day
that students might often disregard. I also plan to include information about
the alleged worker abuse by managers and supervisors at the University of
Maryland and efforts the student group Justice at Maryland is taking to combat
this abuse. The goal of the video will be to highlight the lives of a large
segment of our university most students aren’t aware about and expose a major
issue many say the university hasn’t addressed. I will talk to/film workers and
members of Justice at Maryland. I will also try to speak to administrators and
supervisors. The story will most likely be around 4 minutes long. A proposed
headline is: Taken for Granted: Maryland Workers Call for Justice
