Jaime Cantor Multimedia Pick

I chose this clip of the CNN newscast because the story is not only memorable, but it also reminds the audience that journalists are willing to put themselves in extremely dangerous situations to spread news around the world.  Bob Woodruff, a news anchor for ABC, travelled to Iraq and was in a tank with the US Military when an IED exploded close by. The explosion left him in a coma for 36 days and with a severe brain injury that took months to recover from.  When people watch the news and are shocked by the footage on the television screen, it is easy to forget that there are journalists on location risking their lives.  Although the newscast does not show footage of the accident, the clips put Woodruff's story into perspective and allow the audience to visualize the accident.
This story is even more noteworthy and meaningful to me, and probably most of the class, because we are all aspiring journalists.  Journalists are so frequently negatively criticized on their work for various reasons, but CNN's clip is a thorough reminder of the risk journalists will put themselves at for a job. There would be no footage of wars, hurricanes, and other natural disasters if it weren't for the brave journalists who put themselves in danger when everyone else is trying to escape it.
